Air Arabia made its inaugural flight to Sana'a in Yemen yesterday with a delegation of top officials.

Air Arabia's first flight to Yemen was a fully commercial one.

"We are pleased to start operations to Yemen, our 15th destination and part of our ever expanding network," said Adel Ali, CEO, on arrival at Sana'a. "With the arrival of our fourth aircraft last month, Air Arabia is further positio-ned to service customers throughout the Middle East, North Africa and the Subcontinent."

In its first year of operations till October 28, Air Arabia has flown more than half a million passengers in the region and neighbouring countries.

From five destinations Beirut, Bahrain, Damascus, Kuwait and Muscat and 16 flights a week, Air Arabia now operates more than 60 flights a week to 15 destinations.

Flights from Sharjah to Sana'a will operate on Saturdays and Tuesdays, leaving at 09:45 and arriving in Sana'a at 11:25. The flight will depart for Sharjah at 12:10 and arrive at 15:45.

A one-way ticket from Sharjah to Sana'a costs Dh300, excluding government taxes, which vary. Similar fares are available from Sana'a to Sharjah.

The next six months will see the airline offering more destinations as it continues with plans to fly to India, Jordan and Pakistan. In the early part of 2005, its fleet will grow to five Airbus A320 aircraft allowing the airline to increase frequency on existing routes and offer passengers the largest seat pitch in the regional market 34 inches compared with 29 and at most 31 on most regional airlines.
