And it's official... Global Village is back! You know what that means: entertainment, feasting, and lots of happy moments to share on the socials. When Global Village temporarily closed on Feb 28 due to the shifting regional landscape, many plans to explore the arena of experiences were scrapped. For nearly seven weeks, the vibrant pavilions stood quiet, and the usual hum of the world’s cultures coming together was missed by residents and tourists alike. However, today on Monday, April 20, with the ceasefire in full effect, the doors opened, the lights came on, and it was time to celebrate. Vendors and visitors smiled generously at one another as pavilions greeted their guests. Security was top-notch, with new regulations in place to ensure safety. Here's a look at all the goings-on as Global Village came alive once again:

So much to see, to do: Visitor

Jamil Quilalan, a Filipino is out and about with his friends, and always finds Global Village "a renewed experience" . "It always feels so new and refreshing, with so many attractions. Even if it might come to an end, it still feels like it's just starting."

Judy Abdallah and her family step out to their favourite part of Global Village: The Floating Market, a popular hotspot for all the best shrimps, mussels and chicken pops. As she says, she has been coming here for her whole life, and is always looking forward to Global Village.

Ready for the regulars, say kiosk owners

Pakistani owner Arshad says Global Village is the best place to open his business. He also mentioned that he had a flourishing business last year in the UAE pavilion, and this year, he has two shops, one in the Oman paviliation. "I see regular customers and I am so excited to start again."

Faisal, a store owner at the Pakistani pavilion, is tired after a long day but overjoyed. It has been two days of preparing to open the stall after a month of closure, but he is hopeful that all will be well now.

'Missed Global Village'

Lajla Hamzic, owner of Bosnian House stall, says: "We missed the Global Village and the people and our customers." On how she spent her time in the past month, she says, she was still enjoying her time in Dubai. "We enjoy when we are not working." She also mentions how her regular customers were quite excited that they had opened again. "They are always asking and texting, when are we opening."

Alvi-Nora, a Filipina at the America stall, shares her excitement on being back. "I was in the Thailand pavilion before, this is my first time at the Americas," she says, explaining that she has been in Dubai for 18 years, and a vendor at Global Village since 2011.

Well prepared for anything: Security

After a month-long closure triggered by the Iran–Israel–US conflict, Global Village has reopened with renewed energy, and a sharpened focus on safety. As we are told by security, the priority is clear: Keep calm, stay alert, and protect every visitor who walks through the gates.

We have to be calm. Don’t have to panic, says a guard, describing the mindset drilled into the team during recent briefings. The emphasis, he explains, is not just on individual vigilance, but collective responsibility. “We inform all our team to protect our tourists, our visitors.”

Preparation now defines daily operations. Across the sprawling venue, multiple safety zones and exit strategies have been reinforced. “Yes, we have the exit points here,” he notes, gesturing toward one of several designated areas. In the event of an emergency, there is no hesitation in the protocol: “We have to open all the exit points to the visitors. And we have to protect them.”

These exits are not limited or obscure; they are widespread and clearly mapped. There are five gates. Gate 5C, Gate 1C, Indian Gate, Gate of the World. Each serves as a crucial channel for crowd movement, which is meant to ensure swift and safe evacuation if required.

The approach is firm, sans confusion and less delays.
