Small initiatives can help make a big difference
Issues raised by residents are going a long way to helping their neighbourhoods
Small efforts can make big differences and Gulf News is leading the way through its community reports. All members of the community who share a concern for the welfare of their neighbourhood and country should make an effort to take care of it. My community report, ‘These hedges are drying due to lack of water' was published on October 24, 2011.
Upon publication, the article rang like an anvil to the authorities and helped put those words into action. About three days later, there were people working to fix the pipes.
The problem has been rectified. Today these hedges are lush green as the above pictures justify. Community reports are really making an impact and that's the whole point of publishing them. It's a positive initiative that is working.
