The Misrena Movement, a popular youth initiative, put forth four demands and set a 24-hour deadline
Cairo: Egypt is still reeling with shock over the football match-turned bloodbath, which took place on Wednesday night, leaving more than 74 dead and hundreds injured.
In response to the senseless massacre, Prime Minister Kamal Al Ganzori announced during an emergency session at the parliament, the suspension of the Port Said governor, the Security Director of Port Said as well as the Egyptian Football Board, referring the former officials to interrogation.
The youth on the other hand, had different demands in mind.
Activists have been actively discussing the best means to respond to the Port Said massacre, which they believe may have involved the Supreme Council of Armed Forces (SCAF) and the Ministry of Interior, as most of the dead and injured belonged to the Ultras, a group of football fans known for their active role in securing Tahrir and every other square during protests or any crackdown.
The Misrena (Our Egypt) Movement, a popular youth initiative, announced the following demands that they said should be met within 24 hours:
First, the immediate resignation of Kamal Al Ganzori’s government, and mandate of the parliament to form a new government, without the Supreme Council of Armed Forces (SCAF) involvement.
Second, opening up the presidential nominations immediately in hopes of electing a President half way through April.
Third, the new government to handle the security files, and receive complete support from the current elected Parliament.
Fourth, full cooperation from the Supreme Council of Armed Forces’.
