Stranded Palestinians return home
Egypt: At least 100 Palestinians stranded for months in Egypt headed to the Israeli border on Sunday under a deal allowing them to return to Gaza, a Palestinian official said.
The Palestinians were the first of more than 600 stranded Gazans who are expected to return home on Sunday and Monday.
Palestinian embassy official Hani Al Jabour said that around 627 Palestinians would be allowed to cross into Gaza through Israel under a deal agreed on Saturday.
He said the Palestinians were chosen on a first-come-first-served basis and that none were wanted by Israel.
Officials estimate that there are at least 7,000 Palestinians stranded in Egyptian towns in north Sinai since Hamas seized control of the Gaza Strip on June 14.
The Rafah border crossing between Gaza and Egypt has been closed since Hamas's takeover.
