Egypt's Sisi commits to 2030 term limit, vows no amendments to constitution

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has said his presidential term will end in 2030, stressing that the country’s constitution will not be amended to extend his tenure, state-run Al-Ahram newspaper reported on Saturday.
Speaking at a graduation ceremony at the Egyptian Military Academy in the New Administrative Capital, Sisi said the end of his term was settled and ruled out changes to the constitution.
“The year 2030 will mark the end of my presidential term. This matter is completely settled,” Sisi said.
He stressed that the constitution “will not be touched”, emphasising the importance of upholding constitutional and democratic principles.
Sisi said Egypt’s constitution defines the role of the armed forces in protecting the constitutional order, democracy and the fundamental pillars of the state.
The Egyptian president also highlighted efforts to prepare future leaders through the Egyptian Military Academy.
“I will not leave the Egyptian state until it is brimming with its own people capable of shouldering responsibility,” he said, referring to the development of a new generation ready to take on leadership roles.
