Dubai: What began as a joyous wedding celebration in east Amman, the capital of Jordan, turned into tragedy when a quarrel over a spilled glass of juice escalated into a deadly shooting, Roya News reported.

The incident occurred at a wedding in the Jabal Al Nasr district after juice was accidentally spilled on one of the guests, according to eyewitnesses. The offended guest called his brother, who arrived at the venue and immediately opened fire in multiple directions.

A 10-year-old boy, unrelated to either party involved, was hit by a stray bullet and died at the scene. Two others, also unconnected to the dispute, were injured and taken to Al Bashir Government Hospital, where their conditions were described as moderate.

The boy’s body was transferred to the forensic medicine centre for examination, police said. The shooter later surrendered himself at a local police station.

Authorities have summoned the groom and his father for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation.

Recent amendments to Jordanian law have introduced stricter penalties for carrying firearms at social gatherings and for celebratory gunfire — a practice that has frequently resulted in fatal accidents in the country.
