Dubai: Iraqi authorities have foiled an attempt by a couple in Diyala province to sell their four-month-old infant for money.
The Federal Intelligence and Investigation Agency in Diyala announced that security forces arrested the parents after receiving information about the planned sale.
The couple was caught in the act and, during interrogation, admitted their intention to sell the child.
The infant and her parents were transferred to investigative authorities for further legal proceedings. Iraqi officials did not disclose details about the buyer or the motivation behind the attempted sale.
Authorities have urged the public to report any suspicious activities to help protect children’s welfare.
