Ramallah: Residents and institutions of occupied East Jerusalem condemned Israeli plans to build a national park between the Arab neighbourhoods of Al Eisawiyah and Al Tour, stressing that the land belongs to Palestinians.

The Jerusalem Planning and Building Committee will review and approve the plan to commence work on the park which will be built on the land expropriated from Palestinian owners. The Israeli authorities have already seized the entire Al Tour Mountain from its Palestinian owners.

The Arab neighbourhoods of Al Eisawiyah and Al Tour will be affected because the two areas will not be able to begin development projects.

The Residents of occupied East Jerusalem and Israeli leftist organisations said that they will fight the government and exert efforts to stop the construction of the park.

Fakhri Abu Diab, a member of the Silwan Defence Committee, told Gulf News that this was a catastrophic Israeli plan which would destroy the future of several Arab neighborhoods of occupied East Jerusalem.

He stressed that the land belonged to Palestinians. “The Palestinian owners of those seized lands are ready to present their documents which prove their ownerships of the land,” he said.

“The Israelis have been expropriating land from Palestinian owners to what they claim to be public welfare facilities,” he said, stressing that such claims cannot work and the residents of will resist them.
