Iraqi soccer player kidnapped in Baghdad

Baghdad: A well-known Iraqi soccer player has been kidnapped in Baghdad by militants dressed in military uniform, police said on Monday.

Twenty-two-year-old Ghanim Ghudayer, who was a member of the country's Olympic team, was kidnapped in the Al Amil neighbourhood of Baghdad on Sunday evening.

His assailants arrived in two vehicles and were dressed in military uniform, police First Lieutenant Mutaz Salahiddin said.

Head of the Air Force Club Samir Kadhim said that Ghudayer was preparing to attend a training session before the kidnapping.

He is considered one of the best players in Baghdad's Air Force Club.
