Tehran: Iran has granted bail to Mohsen Armin, a leading reformist former member of parliament who was arrested in May, on bail of $200,000 (Dh54,347), an Arman newspaper reported on Sunday.

The newspaper said Armin, a senior member of the banned reformist party, the Organisation of Mujahedeen of the Islamic Revolution, was released from Tehran's Evin prison.

He had been arrested at his home on May 16, a reformist website reported.

Several other members of Armin's party were also jailed after the controversial June 2009 election which saw President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad given a second term, despite fraud allegations by his challengers.

Iranian authorities rounded up scores of reformist politicians, opposition campaigners, journalists and human rights activists after the poll, accusing them of inciting anti-government protests which engulfed the capital last year.

Several of them have been released on bail, while many have been sentenced to jail terms. A total of 10 have been sentenced to death.
