Interpol issues international alerts in Hariri case

Red notices issued against four Hezbollah men indicted in 2005 assassination

Last updated:

Beirut: A senior Lebanese security official says Interpol has issued international alerts against four Hezbollah men indicted in the 2005 assassination of Lebanon's former prime minister Rafik Hariri.

The official, who requested anonymity citing regulations, says the red notices were issued on Saturday at the request of the Netherlands-based Special Tribunal for Lebanon.

Hezbollah denies the men's involvement and says they won't be handed over.

Hezbollah dominates Lebanon's government and has thousands of fighters, making it unlikely that authorities will be willing - or able - detain the men.

Officials at the tribunal and the Interpol could not be immediately reached for comment.
