Beirut: Lebanon’s official news agency says a gunman killed two soldiers in an ambush in the country’s north and later turned the gun on himself and took his own life. The attack was the latest in a recent string of shootings that have claimed the lives of Lebanese troops. The military says the attacker opened fire at an army patrol in the region of Akkar on Tuesday night, killing the soldiers. The National News Agency says that on Wednesday morning, the man’s uncle and the town mayor approached him to try to persuade him to hand himself over to authorities but he shot himself. The motives for his attack were not immediately known. The military has sent reinforcements to northern and eastern Lebanon to try to quell Syria-related clashes.
