Egypt's New Valley chief dies in tragic car crash a day after promotion

Dubai: Major General Issam El Din Abdullah, newly appointed director of Egypt’s New Valley Security, was killed on Sunday in a horrific car crash while traveling to his new post, just one day after his promotion, according to Al Shorouk newspaper.

The accident took place on the Western Desert Road in Minya governorate, near the entrance to the Samalout Bridge Axis. Authorities said the vehicle overturned, killing Major General Abdullah at the scene and leaving two of his companions seriously injured.

Police Sergeant Abdel Rahman Farghali, 38, sustained multiple fractures, including injuries to the pelvis, while the driver, Yassin Tohami Abdel Hakim, 30, suffered a fracture to his lower spine. Both were taken to Samalout General Hospital.

Major General Abdullah previously served as the head of the North Sinai Security Directorate before being named to his new post as part of a recent reshuffle within the Ministry of Interior.
