Chaos erupted once again in central Gaza as hundreds of desperate Palestinians swarmed airdropped food parcels in Zawaida. With border crossings still sealed and conventional aid routes blocked, international agencies have resorted to airdrops. But instead of relief, the deliveries often trigger stampedes, fights, and deadly panic among starving civilians.

Witnesses described scenes of people screaming, shoving, and climbing over one another in a frantic bid to grab limited supplies. Aid intended to alleviate suffering has, in some cases, sparked deadly scrambles, reflecting the sheer level of desperation among Gaza’s population.

Hunger across the Gaza Strip has reached catastrophic levels. In the past 24 hours alone, at least 91 Palestinians have died and more than 600 were injured while trying to access food, the Gaza Health Ministry reported. Among them, 54 were killed near the Zikim crossing in northern Gaza while waiting for aid. Many of the injured have yet to be fully accounted for, as overwhelmed and undersupplied hospitals struggle to cope.

Amid the worsening crisis, U.S. President Donald Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, arrived in Israel on Thursday. Alongside Ambassador Mike Huckabee, he plans to inspect food distribution in Gaza on Friday. The White House said the trip aims to assess humanitarian needs and explore safer ways to deliver aid. But for many Palestinians, help can’t come fast enough.
