Dubai: A heated argument over the price of prickly pears turned deadly in an Egyptian town, leaving a 28-year-old man dead from a single stab wound to the heart, local media reported yesterday.

The altercation erupted in the East Station district of Bani Mazar, a city in Minya Governorate, between the victim and a street vendor selling the seasonal fruit.

What began as a disagreement over pricing quickly escalated into a violent confrontation, culminating in the vendor plunging a knife into the young man’s chest, according to eyewitnesses and surveillance footage of the incident.

The attack, captured on video and widely circulated on social media, showed the victim collapsing to the ground as bystanders looked on in horror.

Police moved immediately to apprehend the vendor, who later confessed to the stabbing during interrogation, security sources confirmed.

The victim’s body was transported to the Bani Mazar Central Hospital morgue, while prosecutors ordered the suspect detained for four days pending further investigation on charges of premeditated murder.
