Dubai: The Arab newspapers were quick to criticise the Israeli attack on Lebanon and have come out in support of the Lebanese media. Here are excerpts from some of the comments published.

Al Khaleej (UAE), comment by Faisal Jalool

In order for Israel to exist, Arabs must die or leave their lands. Or they must live under total Jewish control on a Middle East that has no value or status.

In other words, Israel can only exist if Arabs exit history and geography as well as the past, present, and future.

This conclusion is not an exaggeration. It is reality and it is found in many examples (Palestine and Lebanon).

Al Watan (Oman), comment by Dr. Ahmad Mustafa

Regardless of the official Arab stance on what is happening in Lebanon and Palestine and regardless of all the excuses that some have given for not finding a way to escape the adoption of an American agenda, what the brave resistance has done in the two countries is far more important than a battle here or an attack there.

It is indeed, a return to the roots and origins [of the problem] that the Americans and the British have tried to obliterate.

Al Akhbar (Egypt), comment by Ibrahim Sa'ada

The people who are getting the most damage out of the savage Israeli military operations are the Lebanese.

Their country is the one facing destruction and ruin and hundreds of its citizens have died facing Israeli attacks, which haven't stopped for nearly two weeks.

And despite the fact that we continue to monitor written news as well as Arabic and international television coverage, (and we continue to hurt from watching footage of children either killed or injured).

I prefer to read what the Lebanese people are writing.

And I prefer to watch Lebanese television only because this is their catastrophe first and foremost and therefore, they are more reliable and better equipped to discuss what is happening.
