London's Westminster lights up to mark 80 years since the end of World War II

London's Palace of Westminster lit up in red, white, and blue this week to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day, marking the end of World War II in Europe.

From 5 to 8 May, the UK is holding nationwide events to honour the historic moment when millions took to the streets in 1945 to celebrate peace after six years of war.

In a striking tribute, historic images from VE Day were projected onto the tower of Big Ben, reminding onlookers of the joy and relief that swept across the nation on 8 May 1945. The light display is part of a broader programme of commemorations that includes ceremonies, concerts, and educational events across the country.
