Dubai: A vegetable seller who set himself ablaze last week in Arar in northern Saudi Arabia has been released by the police, a local daily reported.
Colonel Bandar Al Ayda, the spokesman for the police in the area, said that the man who was not named, was, according to a medical report, psychologically unstable.
The seller reportedly torched himself near a petrol station on his way to a police station, Saudi Arabic daily Al Watan newspaper reported on Thursday.
He had been booked by the police after several men selling fruit and vegetables in the market complained that he was using a small vehicle off which he sold the same products without a proper licence and that he should be made to vacate the premises.
However, the man did not leave and a security patrol was called in and asked him to go to the police station.
On his way, he stopped at a petrol station, poured fuel and set himself on fire, the daily said. Security servicemen rushed to save him and were able to control the fire before he was hurt.
