Abu Dhabi: Saudi-led Arab coalition forces on Tuesday shot down an explosive-laden drone targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure in the city of Khamis Mushait, southern Saudi Arabia, spokesman Brigadier Turki Al Maliki, said.

“Hostile attempts to target civilians and civilian infrastructure by the Iranian-backed terrorist Al Houthi militia are war crimes,” a statement from the Arab Coalition read.

There were no immediate reports of casualty or damage, or whether the interception occurred in Yemeni or Saudi airspace.

Al Houthi terrorists have repeatedly targeted major population centres in Saudi Arabia with booby-trapped drones and ballistic missiles.

“We are taking the necessary operational measures to protect civilians in accordance with international humanitarian law,” the statement added.
