Dubai: A Saudi citizen has been sentenced to five years in prison after being convicted of defrauding 41 individuals through a series of online scams, according to local media reports.

The defendant operated through various electronic platforms, where he posted fake advertisements for products that did not exist. By offering attractive deals and convincing descriptions, he managed to lure unsuspecting buyers into transferring money directly to his bank account.

Once the victims completed the payments, the fraudster immediately blocked all communication with them, effectively vanishing without delivering any goods or services.

The court handed down a five-year prison sentence, underscoring the seriousness with which Saudi authorities treat cyber fraud and online deception.

Authorities launched an investigation following multiple complaints from victims across the Kingdom. After gathering substantial digital evidence, including transaction records and online communications, the defendant was arrested and charged with financial fraud, cybercrime, and the misuse of electronic platforms. Officials reiterated their commitment to combating electronic crimes and protecting consumers from fraudulent activities.

The case serves as a reminder for the public to remain vigilant when making online purchases, and to use trusted, verified platforms that offer buyer protection and transparency. Legal experts have also advised individuals to report suspicious activity promptly, as swift reporting is key to preventing further incidents and aiding investigations.
