Saudi Arabia: OIC condemns cowardly terrorist attack on Jeddah oil station

Abu Dhabi: The General Secretariat of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) strongly condemned the cowardly terrorist attack on an oil distribution station in the north of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

In a statement Tuesday, the organisation affirmed its solidarity with Saudi Arabia in all measures it takes to confront sabotage and terrorist acts against vital oil installations, which target the security and stability of energy supplies to the world.

An explosion took place Monday as a result of a terrorist attack by a projectile, causing a fire in a fuel tank at the petroleum products distribution terminal, an official spokesman at the Saudi Ministry of Energy said.

The spokesman said that firefighting teams had extinguished the fire, with no casualties.

“Saudi Aramco’s fuel supplies to its customers were not affected,” the spokesman also confirmed.

He emphasised that the kingdom condemns this cowardly attack, and reaffirmed that such acts of terrorism and sabotage, committed against vital installations — including the recent incident, in Jizan, near the floating offloading platform of the petroleum products distribution terminal, and the previous terrorist attack on oil installations, in Abqaiq and Khurais — are aimed at the security and stability of energy supplies to the world, as well as the global economy.

The spokesman reiterated the kingdom’s determination to confront such terrorist and sabotage acts, and all entities that stand behind them.
