Abu Dhabi: The Saudi Police have arrested a driver and seized his vehicle that was involved in reckless driving, performing stunts in the capital Riyadh, police said

The Saudi traffic police said on Twitter acting on alert, the man was immediately identified, and after monitoring and follow-up operations, the police were able to arrest him on charges of endangering the lives of others.

The necessary legal measures were taken so that the driver stands trial, police said.

The police warned drivers against committing such reckless behaviours, urging them to abide by traffic ethics, and maintain public morals, while driving a vehicle.

In 2017, the authorities began implementing the amendments to the traffic regulations criminalising drifting, racing, sidewall skiing and other stunts.

The drifter is punished for the first time by having to park the vehicle for 15 days and fined SR20,000 ($5,333). He is then referred to the competent court to be considered for a prison sentence.

The second time the vehicle is booked for one month only, and the drifter fined SR40,000, and then referred to the competent court to be considered for a prison sentence.

The third time the vehicle is booked and the drifter fined SR60,000 and then transferred to the court which will look into the confiscation of the vehicle, or for the dirfter to be fined the value of the vehicle, and the drifter goes to jail.
