This initiative is part of KIDANA’s contribution to the Green Holy Sites project
SPA—KIDANA Development Company, the master developer of the Holy Sites and the executive arm of the Royal Commission for Makkah City and Holy Sites has launched a large-scale project to enhance the comfort and safety of pilgrims by providing extensive shade and cooling infrastructure in the courtyards surrounding the Namira Mosque in Arafat.
The project spans 85,000 square meters, where 2,000 trees will be planted and 320 canopies installed. These measures are part of a broader initiative to mitigate the effects of extreme heat and create a more welcoming environment for pilgrims during the Hajj season of 1446 AH.
To further support climate control efforts, 350 misting fans will be strategically placed across the courtyards to help reduce temperatures and improve air quality. A complete infrastructure for water and electricity networks is also being developed to support these enhancements.
This initiative is part of KIDANA’s contribution to the Green Holy Sites project, aligning with the broader Saudi Green Initiative, which seeks to expand green areas and improve environmental conditions across the Kingdom. As part of this initiative, 20,000 trees have been planted over 290,000 square meters, demonstrating KIDANA’s commitment to sustainability and ecological balance.
In a complementary move to reduce ground heat, the Roads General Authority has completed the application of a white asphalt coating on roads surrounding Namira Mosque. This innovative solution helps lower surface temperatures and provides a cooler environment for pilgrims.
