Dubai: The Royal Oman Police (ROP) has foiled two attempts to smuggle drugs to the Sultanate by sea, local media reported.

According to the Omani Police, six foreigners have been arrested for attempting to smuggle narcotics.

“Four defendants of Asian nationalities were found in possession of 50.64kg of crystal drugs, 26.132kg of hashish and a quantity of morphine, while trying to smuggle it into the Sultanate near the coast of Qurayyat,” a statement by the police reads.

In another case, the Department of Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances, led by the Dhofar Governorate Police, in cooperation with the Special Mission Patrols, arrested two infiltrators of African nationality with 12 bags hashish , 4,400 tablets of Captagon and five pieces of morphine.

The police called on citizens and residents to help combat the danger of drugs and tipp off the police by calling the toll-free number of the General Administration for Combating Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (1444) or going to the nearest police station.

Meanwhile, Oman Police issued statement saying Al Mudhaibi Police Station arrested two people on charges of trading in alcoholic beverages. They were transporting 120 bottles of alcohol in a private vehicle for sale. Legal measures are being taken against them.
