Cairo: Oman today welcomed Morocco’s decision to normalise relations with Israel through a US-brokered agreement, and the kingdom’s renewed commitment to a two-state solution to the Palestinian problem.

“The Sultanate of Oman welcomes what the King Mohammed VI of sisterly Morocco announced in his phone contacts with US President Donald Trump and the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas,” the Omani Foreign Ministry said.

“We hope this will boost efforts for achieving comprehensive, fair and lasting peace in the Middle East,” it added.

Trump Thursday announced the Moroccan-Israeli agreement to normalise their ties.

Two-state solution

Following the announcement, the Moroccan monarch stressed in a phone call with Abbas Morocco’s commitment to the two-state solution, according to a royal court statement.

“Morocco supports the two-state solution. Palestinian-Israeli negotiations are the only way to reach a final and lasting solution to this conflict,” the court added.

Morocco is the fourth Arab country to agree to establish normal ties with Israel since August after the UAE, Bahrain and Sudan.
