Cairo: The Omani Health Ministry Sunday confirmed 53 new cases of the novel coronavirus, raising the Sultanate's overall infections to 559 cases and three deaths.

The tally includes 109 patients who have recovered from the respiratory disease, the ministry added in an update.

Meanwhile, a total of 583 people have left institutional isolation centres in the Omani capital Muscat over the past two days, a local official said.

They are part of about 3,000 people who have been accommodated in 22 isolation facilities set up in Muscat, Dr Mohammad al-Sadi, the supervisor of Relief and Accommodation Sector in the province added.

He said that other batches will successively leave the centres, set up as part of Oman's precautions against the new coronavirus.
