Muscat: Engineer Abdul Rahim Abdullah Noori Al Balushi, an Omani citizen, has developed a mobile app that offers clients quicker rescue should their vehicle break down on the road.

Al Balushi, Head of IT Department at Al Jarwani Hospitality, recently created the app in collaboration with a number of developers.

Rafaa (recover in Arabic) allows recovery truck drivers to register their mobile numbers with the app.

The recovery drivers are able to locate the stranded vehicle via GPS.

Because the closest driver would be dispatched, stranded drivers no longer have to wait for long periods of time.

“We are talking minutes instead of hours,” Al Balushi tells Gulf News.

He says he calls the registered numbers himself to verify their authenticity and reliability.

The app is proving to be a big success—in the first week of its launch it accumulated around 1,700 users.
