Dubai: Kuwait’s Ministry of Information said Monday it had launched an internal investigation after a food delivery worker mistakenly appeared live on Kuwait Television during a morning news broadcast, triggering widespread criticism and prompting immediate disciplinary measures.

The incident occurred during a live interview with astronomer and historian Adel Al Saadoun on the state-run Kuwait TV news channel. During the segment, a delivery worker walked across the studio and in front of the camera without being stopped by the production team.

“There’s a man passing in front of us… he’s a delivery worker,” Al Saadoun remarked during the broadcast.

The unexpected interruption sparked debate across Kuwaiti media circles and social platforms, with viewers criticising what they described as a lack of professionalism.

In a statement to Al Rai newspaper, sources at the Ministry of Information said the technical team responsible for the programme has been referred for investigation and the studio manager suspended pending further review.

Al Saadoun later clarified on social media that the broadcast was conducted live from a large hall at the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research, not from a closed studio, and that the delivery worker had been unaware of the live broadcast.

The ministry emphasised its commitment to quality standards in state media and said it is taking the matter seriously. Officials also confirmed that the ministry is undergoing a comprehensive restructuring of its news departments, including administrative changes and the rollout of a new visual identity for the news channel.
