A key measure involves modifying second-semester textbooks, dividing them into two parts
Dubai: Kuwait’s Ministry of Education has unveiled plans to reduce the weight of school bags by up to 50%, following directives from Minister of Education Jalal Al Tabtabaei.
The initiative aims to ease the physical burden on students while maintaining the quality of education.
According to the Ministry, various departments, including educational research, curricula, general education and finance, collaborated to develop practical solutions that balance educational efficiency with student safety.
A key measure involves modifying second-semester textbooks for the 2024-2025 academic year, dividing them into two parts to significantly reduce their weight.
The Ministry emphasized that these adjustments were implemented without compromising the quality of educational content or printing standards. Moreover, the initiative was executed within the existing budget for textbook printing, showcasing the Ministry’s focus on efficiency.
“This initiative underscores the Ministry’s commitment to protecting students’ physical health by minimizing the risks associated with carrying heavy bags,” the statement said. “The goal is to create an educational environment that promotes both academic success and student well-being.”
The Supply and Warehouses Department has already begun distributing the revised textbooks to schools across all educational districts.
The Ministry confirmed that the process is progressing according to a detailed plan to ensure all materials are delivered on time ahead of the second semester of the 2024-2025 academic year.
By ensuring timely distribution and reduced textbook weight, the initiative is expected to foster a stable and supportive learning environment, aligning with the Ministry’s broader objectives for educational reform and student health.
