Dubai: Three expatriate workers were killed on Monday when a water tank exploded at Mina Abdullah Port while they were cleaning it with chemical substances, according to Al Anba, an Arabic-language daily.

Citing a security source, the newspaper reported that a chemical reaction—possibly intensified by the day’s extreme heat—ignited the blast inside the tank.

The victims were inside the tank when the explosion occurred, leaving no chance for rescue, the source added. Emergency police patrols, ambulances, and a team from the forensic evidence department quickly responded to the site.

Initial investigations suggest the combination of cleaning agents and high temperatures triggered the fatal reaction. Authorities have launched a full inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the incident as they work to determine the exact cause and assess whether safety protocols were followed.
