Dubai: Kuwait has recorded another 55 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of infections in the country to 1,355, Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) reported.

According to Kuwait’s Ministry of Health, one new virus-related death was also confirmed - a 79-year-old citizen who suffered from chronic illnesses, pushing the country’s death toll to three.

During its daily briefing, Health Ministry spokesperson Dr. Abdullah Al Sanad said that 26 patients were in intensive care - nine of them are in critical condition and 17 are stable.

He added that the total deaths now stood at three.

The number of those currently receiving treatment at hospitals reached 1,176 said the spokesperson, adding that 146 individuals have completed quarantine in the last 24 hours.

The ministry also announced the recovery of 26 patients from the novel coronavirus, COVID-19, taking the country’s total recoveries to 176.

KUNA quoted the Minister of Health Sheikh Dr. Basel Al Sabah as saying that the treated people have tested negative and they will be moved to a rehabilitation ward for two days before being discharged from hospital.

Earlier yesterday, Kuwait announced a plan to repatriate 50,000 citizens stranded abroad due to suspension of flights globally over coronavirus concerns, the Kuwait News Agency announced on Monday.

Kuwait’s Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Al Khalid Al Sabah said: “We have 50,000 citizens stranded abroad. We have rolled a plan to begin repatriating them to the country, starting from Sunday.”
