Offenders accused of mugging delivery workers, seizing meals
Cairo: Kuwaiti police have arrested three persons accused of attacking delivery workers and robbing them of their load of meals ordered by others, according to a media report.
The arrests were made after authorities had received several complaints about robberies targeting food delivery workers in Saad Al Abdullah suburb of Al Jahra governorate, added Kuwaiti news portal Almajilis.
The suspected assailants are being interrogated. There was no immediate word on how many such attacks were carried out.
The delivery business has flourished in Kuwait since the COVID-19 era.
The epidemic-induced restrictions prompted the volume of delivery orders to leap from 120,000 orders to about 300,000 per day in Kuwait, according to market observers.
Although life has returned to normal, the change in lifestyle induced by the Coronavirus is still ongoing.
Customers in Kuwait, a country of 4.7 million people, are now keen to obtain the products they are looking for quickly, a trend resulting in a relative stability in the number of delivery orders requested via apps and websites, experts say.
The pandemic has brought about a cultural change in the consumer and market patterns, and increased awareness about the importance of the delivery sector and the need to nurture it, given its increasing role in other economic sectors, they add
The delivery operations include restaurant orders, food, clothing, medicines, and cosmetics amid a significant demand from different segments of society to benefit from the services of companies that deliver various products.
