Manama: Gulf Air, Bahrain's national airline, has cancelled its day flight to London, citing Heathrow Airport disruptions.
"Due to the spreading of an ash cloud across UK airspace from a volcanic eruption in Iceland, flights to and from London Heathrow airport are disrupted," Gulf Air said in a statement.
"Therefore, in the interest of passenger and aircraft safety, Gulf Air flight GF003 and GF006 Bahrain/London /Bahrain for today have been cancelled," the airline said.
No time or date was mentioned for the resumption of flights, and the company said that it regretted "the inconvenience this may cause to passengers."
Two Gulf Air and British Airways planes landed at Bahrain airport late afternoon, coming from Heathrow. However, sources at the airport said that they were not sure whether the Gulf Air and BA planes would depart for London at 1:05am and 1:40am respectively.
