A Bahraini mother has given birth to quintuplets, two boys and three girls, on Tuesday at the Salmaniya Medical Complex, medical sources told Gulf News.
The five new-born were admitted to the intensive care unit, where they were said to be in a stable condition and doing well.
An ultra sound carried out earlier had shown that the mother was pregnant with four, and the three week early delivery of the quintuplets came as a pleasant surprise to the Bahraini couple, who have so far refused to talk to the media.
Dr Abdullah Eisa, head of Pregnancy and Maternity Department, Salmaniya Medical Complex, said a fifteen-member medical team helped in the delivery of the quintuplets.
"Everything went well and both the mother and the babies are doing well," he said.
This is the first known quintuples case in Bahrain. Both the mother and the father are staff at Salmaniya Medical Complex, sources said.
