Dubai: Bahrain’s First High Criminal Court sentenced a man to 15 years in jail for beating his friend to death after a brawl in July.

The court found the 50-year-old defendant guilty of killing his 42-year-old friend after an argument erupted between them while drinking alcohol.

The court also handed out a three-month jail term to his 61-year-old accomplice for failing to settle the dispute and helping the first defendant to flee the scene without helping the victim.

They crime happened after a drunken argument erupted between the convicts and the victim in a farm in Segaiya on July 14.

The convicted men were arrested just two hours after the Capital Governorate Police Directorate received a report about the victim’s body being found by passers-by at the farm.

Abdullah Al Banki, Chief Prosecutor at Al Manama Prosecution, said in a statement that investigations showed the defendants were drunk when a heated argument erupted between one of them and the victim.

The first defendant assaulted the victim to death, while the second one helped him flee the crime scene.

“The Public Prosecution launched its investigation immediately after it was notified about the incident and moved to the crime scene, where the necessary examination was carried out and a forensic doctor was appointed,” Al Banki said.

“The prosecution then interrogated the two defendants and ordered their preventive detention upon trial. It also listened to the witness and requested police inquiries about the incident before referring both defendants to criminal trial.”
