Manama: Senior Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) senior officials should intensify their meetings and go well beyond their regular encounters in a new approach that should allow them to keep pace with the fast developments in the region, Bahrain’s Prime Minister said.

The current regional and global situation requires a closer and more comprehensive political, economic and security cooperation in order to deal with challenges in a more efficient way, Prince Khalifa Bin Salman Al Khalifa said.

The latest developments and challenges in the region should serve as a call to be more vigilant and to draw lessons, particularly that the instability plotted by the enemies of the region could occur in any country if not enough precautionary measures are taken and integrated cooperation as a strategic option against evil plots is not adopted, the prime minister warned as he received the ambassadors of Saudi Arabia, UAE and Jordan.

Prince Khalifa paid tribute to the role of Saudi King Salman Bin Abdul Aziz in leading the GCC towards further cohesion that consolidates its international status as an economic and political power, Bahrain News Agency (BNA) reported.

He also praised the UAE and its constant support for Arab issues and support for the GCC thanks to the wise policies of HH President Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The prime minister also highlighted the role of Jordan in supporting Arab issues and its honourable stances towards Bahrain, the news agency said.

In a separate meeting with Bahraini officials, Prince Khalifa said the values of tolerance, co-existence and compassion were the main shield that protects the nation against attempts to stir or fuel tensions and divisions within the nation.

Nations that lose their sense of security turn to conflicts and disputes that shatter hopes and spread fear, he warned.
