Dubai: Bahrain on Tuesday announced 161 new coronavirus infections, bringing the total number of active cases to 870, Bahrain News Agency reported.

The Ministry of Health said the new cases were detected after conducting 3,581 new COVID-19 tests.

The ministry also announced 54 new recoveries and the death of a 60-year-old male Bahraini national, a registered active case of coronavirus who was suffering from underlying and chronic health problems. This brings the Kingdom’s death toll to seven.

The deceased male, a contact of an active case, was placed in isolation and received extensive 24-hour treatment from a specialised medical team.

The ministry highlighted that, excluding three cases, all other active COVID-19 cases remain stable and all patients continue to receive treatment from a specialised medical team following guidelines provided by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

The ministry expressed its heartfelt condolences to the individual’s family at this difficult time.

Currently, 69,359 people have been tested and the total number of confirmed active cases is 870, amongst which 3 patients are in critical condition. To date, 645 patients have been discharged and 7 deaths have been confirmed.
