Woman looks for eggs to become mom

London: A 54-year-old woman desperate to have a child is appealing to London's commuters to donate eggs for her fertility treatment.

Linda Weeks and her husband spent about 2,000 pounds ($3,900; Dh14,000) to post an appeal in 50 of London's double-decker buses, the advertising company said on Monday.

"We'll never be a mummy and daddy unless a wonderful woman aged 36 or under can help us by donating some of her eggs," says the ad, which will go up next week.

"You are our only chance of happiness."

Weeks, who is infertile, said on her blog that she had spent 14 years trying to have a baby.

She said that the advertisement was an attempt to "condense a lifetime's worth of hope, and 14 years' worth of heartbreak and disappointment, into about a hundred words".

The small poster, which will go up inside the buses, was prepared with the help of CBS Outdoor Ltd, which handles ads on London's transport network.

Individuals have often rented out advertising space on London's buses, but this was unusual, company spokeswoman Jo Tomlin said.

"Generally we've had people want to do Valentine's Day messages, or a marriage announcement," Tomlin said.

"Something of this nature is fairly unique."

She said she wished Weeks well on her quest to find a donor.

"It's one of those nice, really heartfelt stories, and you've got to hope that works for her," she said.
