London: A 20-year-old man was remanded in custody by magistrates on Saturday charged with the murder of his younger brother.

Daniel Taylor, a long-term cannabis abuser with a history of mental health problems, appeared at Bradford Magistrates Court charged with the murder of nine-year-old Jack Taylor.

Jack died despite the desperate efforts of his sister Rachel, 18, to protect him.

The youngster suffered repeated stab wounds to his neck with a kitchen knife.

The boy was attacked in the kitchen of his sister's house and staggered out into the garden.

Their parents rushed over from their home 50 yards away to find their youngest child dying. His mother Louise screamed: "I want to know if he's all right" as paramedics took him to hospital.

His father Timothy yelled: "He's stabbed him, he's stabbed him."

Futile effort

Jack was taken to Bradford Royal Infirmary by ambulance but doctors could not save him and he was declared dead minutes later.

A post-mortem examination showed he died from multiple stab wounds.

The horrific killing happened shortly after 7.30pm on Thursday while Jack was visiting the semidetached home in Bradford where Rachel lives with her boyfriend and one-year-old baby.
