Rome: A train derailed in northern Italy on Monday, killing at least six people and injuring at least 20 people, the Ansa news agency reported.

The regional train derailed because of a landslide near the town of Merano, according to rescuers.

The civil protection agency and several ambulances headed to the scene.

The railway line, inaugurated in 2005, is considered one of the most modern tracks in the country, ANSA said.
