Manila: A government agency has asked former and current overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and their relatives to participate in Kris Kringle (Secret Santa) before the Holiday Season, hoping the event will be a world record.
"If you love giving gifts, this is the moment you have been waiting for," said the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) in a campaign to popularise the exchange of OFWs gifts. "We can surpass the current world record holder of Kriss Kringle, with the number of our OFWs and their relatives," said OWWA.
Registrations
Some 3,500 OFWs and their relatives have already registered at OWWA's office in suburban Pasay City, OWWA said, adding the number of participants is expected to increase a lot until the end of the registration on December 14.
Participants will open gifts at 3.30pm on December 18, at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila's central Rizal Park, OWWA said, adding the main event will be documented by the government agency and the media.
OFWs in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore and Taiwan will take part in the same event, OWWA said.
OFWs in these places should register through mobile phones, OWWA said, adding that telecom operator Globe has given special rates for this event.
