Manila: The Bureau of Immigration has slapped a "hold departure" order against former matinee idol Gabby Concepcion over a bigamy case filed against him almost 20 years ago.

Concepcion, who lived in the United States for several years, returned to the country last month after a mortgage crisis hit San Francisco forcing him to go back to show business. The actor was a successful real estate agent in California.

The actor posted bail for 24,000 pesos (Dh2,181) when a lower court in Manila revived a warrant of arrest against him which was issued in August 1997. By that time, Concepcion was already in the US after he and manager Lolit Solis were implicated in an acting award scandal. The bigamy case against Concepcion was filed by a relative of a certain Jennifer Martin alleging that he married her in Nevada a month before the actor tied the knot with actress Sharon Cuneta in 1984.

Concepcion has a daughter with Cuneta, K.C. Concepcion, who has entered showbiz after graduating in Paris. In 1993, a lower court in suburban Pasay City nullified the actor's marriage with Cuneta who is now married to Senator Francis Pangilinan and has two daughters with him.
