Delegates to sport native Tagalog wear
Manila: All delegates to the 12th Association of Southeast Asian Nations summit next week will wear Barong Tagalog, the native formal wear at the customary group photo session.
According to a report by the Philippine Star daily local couturier, Jean Goulbourn will be outfitting the participating leaders with her innovative Barong designs.
During the 1996 Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation in Subic attended by US President Bill Clinton when Fidel Ramos was president, she came up with the design theme "Windows of the World", which was inspired by windows of ancestral homes.
This time around, Goulbourn infuses the Asean theme "One caring and sharing community", in her creations. The attire, which will be worn by male and female delegates alike, will be made out of a local handwoven fabric made from pineapple fibres.
