Manila: A bomb exploded in front of an empty lot and damaged a parked vehicle including glass panels in nearby commercial establishments in Makati City, the country's financial district, police said.

No one was hurt when the explosion occurred on a vacant lot on Dela Costa Street, Salcedo Village at two in the afternoon, Supt. Jaime Santos, officer-in-charge of Makati City police district said in a radio interview.

The windshield of a damaged Subaru sedan also damaged the glass panels of several establishments on Dela Costa, said Santos.

Initially, residents thought the explosion was from firecrackers during the celebration of Chinese New Year, a resident in a nearby condominium told Gulf News.

Office workers usually go to Dela Costa street for lunch and coffee break, but for the first time, the street was deserted. President Benigno Aquino declared a non-working holiday for the celebration of Chinese New Year.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack. Authorities have not yet determined which group was responsible for the explosion.

"Investigation is ongoing," said Santos.
