Visa halt: German Consulate in Karachi suspends all services

Dubai: The Consulate General of Germany in Karachi has abruptly suspended all consular services for non-European Union (EU) citizens, including those with confirmed visa appointments.

The announcement, made via social media and on the consulate’s official website, is effective immediately and will remain in place until further notice.

“All confirmed visa appointments for non-EU citizens are cancelled and will not be rescheduled,” the consulate stated. Applicants are advised to re-register through the consulate’s online appointment system once services resume. No timeline has been provided for the reinstatement of services.

The diplomatic mission said it would provide updates as the situation evolves and thanked the public for their understanding during the disruption.

Notably, the German Embassy in Islamabad has not issued a similar statement.

This development follows other recent shifts in visa policies from Western countries. Earlier this month, Sweden resumed short-stay visa services in Islamabad. Meanwhile, U.S. consulates in Karachi and Lahore in June updated their requirements for non-immigrant F, M, and J visa applicants, now mandating that applicants make their social media accounts public for vetting.
