Cammie, a young camel from Pakistan's Sindh province, has taken her first steps on a prosthetic leg, bringing tears to the eyes of her caregivers. Cammie's leg was allegedly severed by a landlord in June 2024 as punishment for entering his field in search of fodder.

A viral video of the wounded camel sparked national outrage and swift government intervention. She was transported over 250 kilometres to a shelter in Karachi, where her recovery began. Shelter manager Sheema Khan described her initial condition as heartbreaking—Cammie was terrified and cried often, especially around men. To aid her emotional healing, another young camel named Callie was introduced, helping Cammie build trust and confidence.

After months of rehabilitation, a prosthetic leg from a U.S.-based firm was fitted. Caregivers report that Cammie now strolls independently and continues to show improvement. She will remain at the shelter permanently, surrounded by love, safety, and a second chance at life.
