Islamabad: Students will not be allowed to attend classes after October 31 unless they receive at least one shot of COVID-19 vaccine, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Health Dr Faisal Sultan announced at a press conference on Friday.

By November 30, they are required to be fully vaccinated, said the PM’s too aide on health.

He said a milestone would be achieved when our children are vaccinated. “It has been observed that coronavirus was also spread by youth, especially during the fourth wave,” said Dr Faisal.

You must have observed that COVID-19 cases increased whenever schools were opened, he said adding in such situation, it was important to give special attention to vaccinating children in schools.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s COVID-19 cases have dropped significantly, less than 1,000 in last 24 hours.

According to the National Command & Operation Centre (NCOC), 912 new cases were reported and this is first time in three months that the country’s single-day infections have declined to such a low number.

The country last recorded a daily case count below 1,000 on July 6, when 830 cases were reported in a day.

The latest data showed that Pakistan’s COVID-19 positivity was 1.99 per cent on Friday after 45,619 tests were conducted during last twenty-four hours.

Meanwhile, 26 persons succumbed to coronavirus in this period taking the toll to 28,058.

The total number of cases in the country has reached 1,256,233, according to the NCOC.

Pakistan’s recovery rate is also getting better as, 1,633 persons have recovered from COVID-19 in the last 24 hours across the country, bringing the total number of recoveries to 1,184,527, while the number of active cases fell to 43,648 on Friday from 44,395 a day earlier (Thursday).

No let-up in dengue cases

Hospitals in Rawalpindi, Lahore, Islamabad and Peshawar continue to receive dengue patients as health departments there are struggling to cope with the situation.

In Islamabad 96 dengue cases emerged from the rural and the urban areas while Rawalpindi received 30 new patients during last twenty-four hours.

The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) has launched anti-dengue drive including Fumigation, Larva Checking, Sweeping and Case Response etc in the areas of Bari Imam, Rawat and Sihala.

According to the ICT’s official twitter account, violators have been fined as per law.
