Karachi: Sindh Education and Labour Minister Saeed Ghani has persuaded protesting retrenched employees of Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM) to peacefully end their protest sit-in on the main railway track to restore train operations to and from Karachi after 12 hours.
The minister on Tuesday night contacted the protesting employees on the direction of Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah.
Ghani said that the workers of the PSM ended their protest in view of the difficulties caused to thousands of train passengers who had to face hardships due to blocking of the railway track.
He said that he would shortly meet a delegation of the dismissed workers of PSM. He said that the federal government had undertaken a cruel step by retrenching 4,500 workers.
Earlier, the protesting employees of PSM blocked the main railway line connecting Karachi to the rest of the country near the Bin Qasim railway station. The hours-long protest suspended the train service of Pakistan Railways to and from Karachi on Tuesday. Reham Baba, Tez Gam, Karadhi Express, Shah Hussain, and Green Line, are some of the trains that could not reach Karachi due to the blockade.
