The incident occurred after the children entered a large wheat storage drum at their home
Six children, including four sisters, tragically died of suffocation on Monday in Jinnah Colony, located in Sargodha district of Punjab, Pakistan.
According to a statement by Rescue 1122, the incident occurred after the children entered a large wheat storage drum at their home, reportedly to play. According to the rescue team, the family had recently cleaned the drum and left it unattended. The children, while playing inside, became trapped and suffocated to death.
The victims have been identified as Saima, Amna, Sawera, Dua Fatima, Sonia, and Maryam, according to the Dawn news.
This marks the latest in a string of similar tragedies involving children in the region. Just a day earlier, two siblings in Burjwala, died from suffocation after accidentally locking themselves inside an iron drum while playing hide-and-seek.
In another case earlier this year, five children from the same family — four siblings and their cousin — were found dead in their home after inhaling smoke from burning coals used for heating.
Authorities have urged parents and guardians to take extra precautions to prevent such heartbreaking incidents.
